Family Camping Tips

Traditionally, camping is all about the simple life and traveling light. It’s about communing with the great outdoors. It still can be when you have these five family camping tips to help you keep it simple.

Pre-Prep Snacks and Meals

The more you prep at home, the easier it will be at the campsite. The last thing you want to spend time doing is worrying about meal prep. The easier, the better! Use these family camping tips for mealtime.

If you are bringing snacks that are not pre-packaged, prep and divide them into snack-sized servings. That way you and the kids can grab them and go.

Go ahead and chop up the veggies, marinate the meat, then freeze them in separate zip-lock bags. Read here for some fun camping recipes you will want to try.

Glow Sticks, Glow Sticks, and more Glow Sticks

Bring a lot of glow sticks! They are great for camping for several reasons. For one, kids LOVE them! And, for two, they are extremely useful around the campsite.

  • They are excellent for seeing your kids at night.
  • Attach one to the collar of your dog so you can see where he or she is in the dark.
  • Hang them on tree stumps, tent pegs, or other obstacles to avoid tripping over them in the dark.

Clear Tubs For Organization

Another one of the key family camping tips is to pack everything in clear tubs for easy camping organization. Not only will you be prepared on the fly, but you will also stay more organized at the campsite.

Organize and label them in the following categories:

  • Tents & Sleeping Bags
  • Kitchen Supplies
  • Bathroom & Bathing
  • Food & Snacks
  • Toys & Entertainment
  • Clothes & Laundry

Labeled clear bins are a time-saver when you prepare for camping trips and for when it’s time to pack up and leave.

Don’t Leave Home Without the Tarps

Bringing tarps may sound like a no-brainer, but imagine this. You are camping. The family is having a blast. Then, one day, you wake up to a full day of rain. After several hours holed up in a tent or small teardrop camper with the family, you might be ready to swear off family camping forever.

And, THIS is why you need extra tarps.

Tarps are useful for many reasons, and they store easily. Pitch a tarp shelter over your central cooking area. If rain comes, you can still have a fire, cook meals, and sit around the fire without getting soaked.

Set Up a Hand Washing Station

It’s a pain to hike to the nearest bathroom every time your kids need to wash their hands. You could use hand sanitizer or wipes, but sometimes a good old-fashioned hand washing is in order.

Use an old laundry detergent bottle and set up a hand-washing station. It’s easy, reusable, and simple for everyone to use.
